Predicting the Oscars

****update****

I am not going to change a word I wrote below. BUT…it’s fascinating what I’m saying here….the writing was on the wall for a Parasite win. I wrote something similar the night before the “Moonlight” win. SO….if I start to write something like this again…change your picks, Brian. That’s the lesson!!

This is all very reminiscent of Oscars 2017 when I incorrectly predicted the first big Best Picture sweep since “Slumdog Millionaire” for “La La Land.”

If I’m right, “1917” goes home with 6 wins. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong about Best Picture yet again. And that’s ok.

I’m sensing a “1917” backlash already, and it’s apparently not loved by all, and that’s ok too…also reminiscent of what happened with “La La Land.” Whatever happens tonight I believe that “1917” will stand the test of time. I know that, whether or not it wins Best Picture.

Sounds like a consolation speech doesn’t it. Yeah…this is my least favorite part about the Oscars....

It’s been a long time since the Best Picture winner won 6 awards. You have to go all the way back to “The Hurt Locker.” “La La Land” and “Mad Max” won 6 each and “Gravity” won 7…but none of those got the big prize.

I’m taking a risk with Editing and Documentary Feature. Pretty sure I’m the only one predicting “The Irishman” but I’m not ALL alone with “For Sama.”

Also predicting a Tarantino win for Original Screenplay. That would leave “Parasite” with only 1 win - International Feature.

I almost feel like I have to go that route to convince myself that “1917” is really going to win Best Picture.

Again…this all seems too familiar.  I very well could have a blind spot here. It’s happened in the past, no doubt.

Something will more than likely be going home empty handed, it seems, and I’m sadly predicting that to be “Little Women” although most are saying it will win costumes over “Jojo Rabbit”

Most people are thinking “The Irishman” goes home empty, but even if I’m wrong about Editing (probably wrong) “The Irishman” could ridiculously win Visual Effects. Stranger things have happened. Oh yeah…I’m also predicting a big fat goose egg for “Ford V Ferrari.” Others are going for Editing with Ford…and some think it wins both sound awards as well, but I just don’t get that. Again…blind spot?

As much as I promised I wouldn’t…here are my predictions.
